Everyone here is having lunch and I ordered breakfast. The food isn't here yet but we are already coming back for dinner. The special is beef tips over rice and as I sit here waiting for my food my mouth is watering!!! There's a line out the door to get in they all must know what I am just learning..... Still waiting on food...been 20 mins. We only ordered ham & cheese omelette as French toast. Patiently waiting.... There goes another beef tips a rice..... Our food is here. The grits are so good. Creamy and delicious. French and omelette are good too. Very tasty. Could have shown up sooner BUT it good. Came back for dinner. Beef tips over rice were as good as they looked this afternoon. Sprinkle a little sport pepper juice on them. Now you're talking!!!

$9, Chicken and Dumplings were amazing. Squash, Turnip Greens, BBQ Baked Beans, Two Huge Fresh Biscuits. Man I love that place. Took it to go, was immediately ready.

Breakfast, and cheap: that was the order on the day. I got to Southfield in the mid-morning with my girlfriend, intent on eggs and the fixings that go with. Eggs, bacon, grits and biscuits, then; a proper southern breakfast on my last day in town before heading out to Southern California. Having only recently had grits for the first time, I've been after them at each breakfast stop I encounter. The bowl I had at Southfield was by far the best. They were creamy even without butter, and mixing in a bit of their bacon really nailed it. Speaking of, the bacon there was thick, just crispy enough to be right, and quite smokey. Very good! The eggs were good, and their biscuits were light and fluffy. I ended up stashing a slice of bacon, some egg, and a biscuit in a box to take on the plane with me. If you're in Bossier and need a quick breakfast fix, this is the best I've found so far.

I've been wanting to hit this location since they opened sometime ago. My father-in-law is a big home cooking/blue plate kinda guy, and this place is sorta-somewhat close to where he resides, so my wife and baby girl and I met him up here on a late Sunday afternoon for an early dinner. I love Southfield Grill. I really do. This is the third location that I have tried. I am preferential to the original on Southfield and I also like the location on Mansfield Rd. This is an interesting location here in Bossier City. Originally constructed to be a Leon's Barbeque, this place was all the rage for six months or so when it first opened and then this place just shut down (along with the original Leon's on King's Hwy in Shreveport (which was very sad, and strange for yours truly, and I still miss it! It's a mystery to me still, why both locations closed so suddenly. The original on Kings Hwy was there forever!) And then after being built and closed as a Leon's, this Bossier location was a Silver Star Smokehouse, another bbq place, which itself, picked up sticks, relocated and moved out to the old vacated One Eyed Jack's BBQ joint out on Highway 80. So, enough with the history lesson and on with this review. The service was great. Our waitress was super-nice and paid great attention to detail. Two complaints: The food here seemed bland, or more so bland than at other Southfield Grills. I ordered the fried porkchops (because I like to eat healthy!) and they were cooked well, but lacked seasoning and certain definitive flavors. My wife (a big SF Grill fan herself) without me even commenting on the blandness of my food, said that her food tasted really bland. Summation: The food here had less zest than most hospital food. Complaint numero dos: At 5ish in the afternoon/early evening, it was steamy hot in this restaurant. I don't know if this came from the heat in the kitchen, or the fact the window blinds in the restaurant were partially open. It was hot up in that mother! So hot, our little baby girl was all rosy-cheeked and flush, her hair all jostled and wet with sweat. So hot, I didn't even want to order their Black Bottom Pie, and it's my absolute fave!!! Now, that's hot! We just wanted to get out of there after our meal! Summation: Get some blowers and fans in the kitchen. Get the air conditioner fixed and fully operational. And keep the blinds closed to keep the interior of this restaurant cool and inviting. It's bad enough I'm eating bland, fried porkchops. It's worse that I'm sweating while doing it, and so is the rest of my family! That being said. If these causes for concern can be addressed and repaired, and they can very easily, I would totally go back! Also, a weird little factoid: This restaurant is next door neighbors with a Thrifty Liquor. From the parking lot here, there is direct access to the liquor store parking lot. This is intentional because there is an obvious parting of this property's wooden fence and hedges in order to directly access to the liquor store or vice versa, without having to re-enter Benton Road. This is an obvious design. This is weird/cool/convenient, I guess. I didn't realize that that many people when going to Thrifty decide to hit up Southfield Grill and conversely I didn't realize that so many Southfield Grill patrons need to hit up Thrifty Liquor either before or after dining at this establishment, but whatever. It's there if you need it, I guess.
